Capitol Etiquette & Things to Remember

  • We are all ambassadors at the Capitol. The impression we make with our clothes, our manners, and our arguments matter.
  • Wear business professional clothing. Suits for men and suits or dresses for women.
  • Listen and take notes about what lawmakers say.
  • No profanity when speaking at a hearing.
  • Wear comfortable shoes- even doing a little walking at the Capitol is a lot of walking.
  • Use UBER – LYFT – TAXIS or pile into cars. There is no free parking close to the Capitol. A parking ticket was $20 in 2022.
To find a map of a parking garage, use this link.
  • If you use pain medication, bring extra; it is a long day.
  • Masks are not required at the Capitol, but they may still be in some offices.
  • It can be cold in Tallahassee but comfortable in the Capitol. Check the weather. We can store some coats, but wear layers.
  • Brian said the Howard Johnson on Monroe Street had some smoking rooms. Reserve now.
  • Every person and item/bag that comes through security will pass through a metal detector/x-ray machine.
  • Your medicine is legal, but public consumption is illegal.
  • If you act early, you may schedule wheelchair accessible public transportation.
