FLCAN welcomes Congressman Steube

June 1, 2020 Posted by Jodi Advocacy, Event, Industry, Medicine, Rule Making No Comments

Be Face-to-Face with FLCAN at a special quarterly event just for members Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 7 PM.

Face-to-Face with FLCAN was created as an online event, even before the current crisis. Face-to-Face with FLCAN is produced as an exclusive opportunity for members to learn first-hand about important issues, as well as developments in science and policy, directly from some of the top influencers in their fields. Our years of experience and diverse leadership team means we have access to amazing voices in the spheres of politics, industry, science, and policymaking.

Face-to-Face with FLCAN Welcomes Congressman Greg Steube [R-FL-17] as our first guest.

Congressman Steube is a U.S Army veteran who served with distinction as an Airborne Infantry Officer and a JAG Corps Officer 2004-2008.

Greg Steube represented Cathy Jordan, FL CAN’s past president, when he was first elected to public office in the Florida House of Representatives and then the Florida Senate. He served 16 years in Tallahassee before moving to Congress.

Now, serving in Washington, D.C., he continues to be a friend to Cannabis reform. Congressman Steube introduced HR 2191 Veterans Cannabis Use Safe Healing Act in an effort to protect veterans accessing Cannabis in legal states.

He serves on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, the House Committee on the Judiciary and the House Committee on Oversight and Reform; as well as six subcommittees.

Check out these bills and be ready to submit questions to the Congressman Thursday night June 4 at our Quarterly members-only Face-to-Face.

HR2191 Introduced in House (04/09/2019)

Veterans Cannabis Use for Safe Healing Act

This bill prohibits the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) from denying a veteran any VA benefit due to participation in a state-approved marijuana program. For veterans participating in these approved programs, the VA must ensure its health care providers (1) discuss marijuana use with such veterans and adjust treatment plans accordingly, and (2) record such use in the veterans’ medical records.

Under the bill, the VA shall authorize physicians and other VA health care providers to provide recommendations to veterans who are residents of states with approved programs.

HR4323 Introduced in House (09/12/2019)

Marijuana 1-to-3 Act of 2019

This bill directs the Drug Enforcement Administration to transfer marijuana from schedule I to schedule III of the Controlled Substances Act. (A schedule I controlled substance is a drug, substance, or chemical that has a high potential for abuse; that has no currently accepted medical use; and that is subject to regulatory controls and administrative, civil, and criminal penalties under the Controlled Substances Act. A schedule III controlled substance is a drug, substance, or chemical that has less potential for abuse than a schedule I or II substance; that has a currently accepted medical use; and that has low or moderate risk of dependence if abused
