Pretty Faces, Ugly Sweaters
We were happy to open our headquarters on Friday, December 20th, 2019 for our Ugly Sweater Open House and HollyDaze Party. Our office space in Melbourne, FL has served us well since 2013. There are a lot of videos online as we transformed that plain Jane location into a home for FLCAN (think Ms. Mary Jane M-A-N-O-R-S; more on our Ms. Mary Jane Manners.)
The office houses our Executive Director, merchandise, and serves as a repository for museum quality pieces and archives of cannabis reform dating back 40 years in Florida and impacting the globe. Over the years the space has served as a campaign office for Floridians for Freedom, the Rights Restoration Campaign, and the Medical Marijuana Campaign in 2014 and 2016. Today the space is a comfortable Safe Haven (lounge) for our members, work space for our committees, and retail shelves.
We packed the place on Friday, December 20. The food was super. We had several vegetarian options, meaty dishes, finger food, and a fine assortment of sugary treats. And some really Ugly Sweaters!
FLCAN attracts a mixed bag of people. We had long-time supporter, Glenn Pinfield, in the house. Those of us who have been around as long as Glenn and myself remember the violent anti-marijuana sentiment of the 1970’s, 1980’s, and 1990’s. Glenn was arrested in Melbourne in 1995 as part of a political protest supporting our right to TALK about cannabis. Friday at the party, allies from the Democratic, the Republican, and the Libertarian Parties popped in to talk about ending prohibition with members of the ACLU, the NRA, and the AFL-CIO.
Many of the new visitors to the office just want a safe, legal cannabis product that will help them, as opposed to the ones who keep coming back. Those who keep coming back already know cannabis helps them.
Whether you are new to using cannabis, are ready to enter into the cannabis industry, or have already learned how much cannabis has done for you, Cannabis Action Network is the place for you.
We need 420 members annually to preserve that space. 420 members assures the rents paid, the lights are on, and volunteers can have the tools they need to complete projects. We design our projects to help raise public awareness about the harms of cannabis prohibition, engage our supporters, educate communities, and put pressure on the legislature; all using members who volunteer.
The year 2020 is going to be big for cannabis globally. FLCAN is committed to representing people who need cannabis, people who want cannabis, and those who are using cannabis ahead of the law.
