Even Senate Districts No Race
If you are in Senate District 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, or 40 you will not have a candidate unless the incumbent (the member elected in 2018) was term-limited or has decided not to run for re-election. Senator Tom Lee resigned in May 2020 leaving an open seat and creating the need for a “special election”.
The Florida Senate has 40 members. The members of the Florida Senate are elected for four-year terms. The races are staggered so only half the Senate is elected each election.
During redistricting – every ten years – when we redraw the district lines, all forty Senate seats are up for election. At that time, half the seats are only eligible for a two-year term.
