Democrats Go to POT!
If you are like most people, Elections 2020 seem a long way off. The two major Parties, Democrats and Republicans alike are already geared up for the election. While we all understand President Trump will prevail as the Republican nomination, the Democratic field of hopeful presidential candidates is wide open.
Each election season, Florida Cannabis Action Network spends several months identifying where candidates stand on cannabis. We encourage our members and leadership team to attend town hall meetings, candidate rallies and get out voters in their community. Over the years, cannabis policies has become a mainstream issue.
This year USA Today did a comprehensive review of where the Democratic Presidential Candidates stand on cannabis. We are quick to remind our members that legalization means something different to each of us. However, USA Today identified candidates who would fully legalize cannabis, a cross section that would legalize and make reparations, those who would let the states decide and the loan candidate, Pete Buttigieg, Mayor of South Bend, IN who believes possession of all drugs should be decriminalized. Florida CAN is a non-partisan organization, but we do encourage our supporters to consider putting cannabis policy first. IF your candidate doesn’t understand the importance of cannabis, educate them; if you are undecided, think about making cannabis your priority. The NRA is a strong voice for gun owners because many NRA members are “Single-Issue Voters”. If a candidate isn’t an A-rated NRA candidate, they would skip that race, rather than vote for a candidate not supported by the NRA.
Cannabis policy is about more than getting high. It is about research, medicine, civil rights, repairing the environment, and so much more. We need an army of single issue voters who understand the value of cannabis to our people and our planet.
