Campaign Season Kickoff
I love my job. As president of Florida Cannabis Action Network it is my job to be out and visible. It is important to pay attention early not only to identify candidates supportive of cannabis but maybe more important to identify candidates who are prohibitionists.
Finding cannabis supportive candidates is part of what I do. When I showed up at a local event during a previous campaign season I found a candidate using the leaf on her yard signs. She immediately had my support.
I am sharing this with you because this is the biennial time of year when local candidates are kicking off campaigns for 2020. Just this week I attended two kick off parties: one for Mayor the other for Clerk of Courts. I’ve known both candidates for over a decade. They know me. They are supportive of the issue as it develops and will do what they can when they can. I made a small donation to one and signed up to have a meet & great for the other.
Primary elections come first. Two candidates from the same party running for the same seat. Their opponent may not be totally supportive of cannabis for all its uses but is at least a better choice. Identifying who to support in a primary election is really importatnt. It makes getting where we want to be so much easier.
I encourage everyone to get out to meet candidates early in the campaign process; to help the candidates who are better on our issue; and, to make the election process work in our favor.
Do more than zero. Get out and shake some hands and ask some questions.
