Senator Tom Lee resigned from this seat in May 2020. He had this to say about the process. “I learned to govern in a different era, and, for whatever reason, the legislative process has changed,” Lee said. “Simply put, the Florida Senate just isn’t the best fit for me at this time in my life. For a while, I thought I might get a chance to reform the process, but that wasn’t in the cards.”

Republican Jim Boyd was term-limited from the House. As a former House member he voted with the majority and did not stand up for patients.
